The Landesgartenschau Exhibition Hall in Schwäbisch Gmünd, the demonstrator building of our collaborative research and development project “Robotics in Timber Construction”, has received the Groundbreaking Innovation Award at the Timber Construction Award 2015 of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
The jury mentioned its “exemplary role for innovative developments in timber construction”. Specifically, “the segmented shell demonstrates the performative capacity of wood while using a minimal amount of material and therefore epitomizes resource effectiveness. Its finger-joint plate connections and its use of beech plywood for the 50mm thin shell structure are novel examples for a sustainable use of locally sourced hard wood. The structure was enabled through a synthesis of computational design, simulation, and robotic fabrication methods, which have been combined in this project in an innovative and praiseworthy way.”
The price was awarded on July 22, 2015 by the Minister of Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection, Alexander Bonde.
Congratulations to the team and our supporters!
